Year 6 2016/17 – 6M, 6B

Welcome to Year 6!

6M's amazing week on Dartmoor

We had a brilliant week on Dartmoor: developing our working together skills; trekking across beautiful countryside; splashing around - and even swimming - in the cold rivers; learning more about bush craft; climbing and abseiling up and down Hound Tor; weaselling through impossibly small looking gaps in the rock; having picnics in the open air; even scrambling up the great heights of Greator.  Along the way the children have faced and overcome so many challenges - and smiled a lot along the way.

The children through themselves into all of the activities and enjoyed some of the most amazing sunny weather. We had a fabulous week of activity, challenge and fun!

16th June- Due to camp weeks, 6M and 6B have two weeks to complete the home-learning task. All children have written a newspaper article about their own Dartmoor legend; we would like them to be typed up using the proforma below. Children will be bringing home a photocopy of their writing.

Year 6 had an amazing day at the RNLI Hit the Surf sessions. The children were very well behaved and the lifeguards said they had been the best group of the week. Well done Year 6

Fractions Homework: For Mr Macdonald's group

Year 6 children had their own 'VE Day' to mark the end of their study of how World War II effected the people of Britain. They made sandwiches, painted a VE day picture in the style of Lowry and created their own dance to some 'Swing' music. Many thanks to the parents who tried so hard to help  their child come in costume for the day.

On Wednesday, Justin Knox, a coach from British Cycling, came to work with groups of keen Year 5 and 6 children. They developed their skills in racing in teams of 4 around a grass track before competing against each other. Judging by their big smiles, they had a lot of fun along the way!

6B make WWII sandwiches

The children in year 6 have been learning about WWII. We made sandwiches using the ingredients they would have had through Rationing. There were mixed reactions from the children as to whether they were tasty or not!!
